Start with a walk around inspection, then head off for a road test.
This road test not only warms up the oil, but also gives our technicians a chance to test the steering, suspension and brakes.
They also listen for any unusual noises, bumps or rattles and check the transmission and engine operation, as well as interior lights, heater, cruise control and air conditioning.
On arriving back at the shop, we immediately check all exterior lights, raise the vehicle, and drain the engine oil.
While the engine oil is draining they lube the steering and suspension and check for loose parts; inspect the engine, transmission and differential for leaks; check the tires for abnormal wear and pressure; check the exhaust system for holes or loose components.

I drove into town on a Thursday with my check engine light on, worried that I wouldn't be able to get back home.
The next morning I chose to drop my car off at Box K because they are AAA, but would go back just because they were so kind, thorough, and helpful!
They weren't able to totally fix my problem, but dug deeply enough that they could assure me my car would get me home safely.
They totally nailed the diagnosis, sent me off with that diagnosis, and when I got home, my dealership was able to fix the issue.
